In a thrilling encounter, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Punjab Kings by 8 wickets in Match 14 of the Indian Premier League 2023. SRH won the toss and decided to bowl first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Punjab Kings were off to a terrible start as opener Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed for a duck off the very first ball of the innings. However, Shikhar Dhawan held the innings together with a sensational knock of 99 runs off 66 balls. He was ably supported by Sam Curran (22 off 15 balls) as they managed to post 143 runs on the board at the end of their 20 overs.

In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a steady start as openers Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal added 32 runs for the first wicket. However, it was Rahul Tripathi's blistering knock of 74 runs off just 48 balls that set up the chase for SRH. Aiden Markram also played a crucial cameo of 37 runs off 21 balls as SRH chased down the target in 19.2 overs.

For Punjab Kings, Mayank Markande was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed four wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs. However, his efforts went in vain as Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umran Malik also picked up two wickets each for SRH, while Marco Jansen and Rahul Chahar picked up one wicket each.

This victory takes Sunrisers Hyderabad to the top of the points table with four wins in five matches. On the other hand, Punjab Kings have now lost four matches in a row and find themselves at the bottom of the table. They will be hoping to turn their fortunes around in their next match against Mumbai Indians.
